SCOTT STROUPE
MOORESVILLE, NC
I nominate my husband, Scott Stroupe for the Packer Hall of Fame. Scott, from NC, has been a Packer fan since he was 5. He tells the story of liking the color green and that's why he liked the Packers. Well he was only 5. He's 44 now and still loyal to the Pack. His favorite gift as a child was an old Bart Starr uniform. He still has that helmet, and yes, tries to wear it at tailgate parties.
Scott introduced me to the world of Packer football. I remember planning our wedding for September. He kept saying he'd have t check the schedule and make sure the Packers weren't playing that weekend. They had a bye the weekend we got married. I tell our friends, when we wrote ur wedding vows, Scott mad me vow to be a loyal Packer fan. Since then, he's forgotten every anniversary-it's all about the Packers in September.
The best vacation we've ever taken was to Green Bay. We met Fuzzy, tailgated with all the fans, and watched a great game against the Vikings. We joked that we'd move to Green Bay if it weren't so cold. But we really love the town and the excitement for the Packers its contagious. To us it's like being a part of the Packer family.
Before the NFL package was available, Scott took us to the sports bar to watch the Packer games. It wasn't easy to find a sports pub that's kid-friendly. While sitting with Packer fans, they would always ask "what part of WI are you from?" Scott would smile and say, "I'm a NC native. By the way I'm not just a fan; I'm part owner (we own 2 shares of stock)".
When we moved to Mooresville, Scott wanted to build a house around his growing Packer collection. It took two years to find a basement lot flat enough to build his Packer Shrine. He now has his own Packer Hall of Fame in the South. He's built 14 lockers for the all-time greatest Packers. Each locker is dressed with all sorts of memorabilia like helmets, jerseys. Bobble-heads, even socks. The entire basement is his tribute to the Packers. Neighbors bring their guests over all the time to see our basement. They enter with a "wow" and leave with a smile and a glow in their eyes like a kid on Christmas Day
Nominated by Helen Stroupe.
